OSHA Inspections

Arrival of Compliance Officer

The Compliance Officer will arrive without warning, and there may be more than one inspector. The Compliance Officer from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration generally will report to the main reception area, identify him/herself and indicate the reason for the visit. This does not mean a compliance officer cannot enter through other areas of the facility. It is, however, generally an accepted practice to enter at the office area of the business.

If an employee is approached by a Compliance Officer in an area other than the main office area, that employee is to detain the Compliance Officer and immediately contact his/her immediate supervisor or the main office. The Compliance Officer is not to be allowed further access to the facility unless escorted by the designated company representative(s).

As soon as there is knowledge of an OSHA inspection, the first person on the list of designated company representatives must be notified. If that individual is not available, the next person on the list will be contacted.
