Purpose

The purpose of this program is to establish the requirements for the controlling hazardous energy (lockout) whenever maintenance or servicing is performed on machines or equipment. It shall be used to ensure that the machine or equipment is de-energized, isolated from all potentially hazardous energy sources and locked out before employees perform any servicing or maintenance where the unexpected energizing or start-up of the machine or equipment or release of stored energy could cause injury.

  • This standard covers the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment in which the unexpected energizing or start up of the machines or equipment, or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees.

Scope

This program applies to the control of energy during servicing and/or normal maintenance of machines and equipment if: • An employee is required to remove or bypass a guard or other safety device.
