Talent acquisition has remained top of mind over the last couple of years. Organizations have been seeking innovative strategies to identify and nurture top-tier talent. One such avenue that has been successful for many organizations is the implementation of internship programs. These programs assist students and young professionals in gaining valuable hands-on experience while offering employers a unique opportunity to scout and cultivate potential long-term employees.
Eighty-two percent of organizations responding to this survey will be or are considering hiring an intern this year. The most popular area of the organization plan on hiring interns is engineering, followed by manufacturing/operations/quality and accounting. The responses indicate that 87 percent of employers will offer only paid internships. Job duties, years in school, and flat pay rates for interns are the top characteristics defining interns’ pay.
