It goes without saying that working in an upbeat environment is much better than spending the day in a toxic place with negative energy. In fact, most people will leave a job to work for less pay in a more pleasant atmosphere.
How can you spread good vibes at work, even to those who seem lost in a tunnel of doom? It’s not as hard as you think.
Start by being inspiring. If your glass is half full, people around you can’t help but be inspired to have a positive outlook.
Have a grateful heart. You have a job and there are good parts about that. Maybe it’s close to home, or there’s delicious coffee waiting for you when you get in. What about free parking? While it may not be perfect, there are reasons to be thankful. And being thankful creates positivity.
Do stuff because it’s the right thing to do. Even though no one will know you are the one who rearranged the non-functional break room after hours, or brought in donuts (the good ones!), do it anyway. It will make everyone at work happy. And guess what? That happiness will add to the positive surroundings.
Remember that everyone has bad days. When Frank from accounts payable acts snarky, take a deep breath and be kind. You don’t know if he just received some bad news or maybe he’s not feeling well. Compassion towards others (especially when they are not nice to you) makes the workplace, and world, a better place.
