An Employee Assistance Program, or an EAP can literally be a life saver. This workplace benefit helps employees deal with problems affecting their work. BUT, these problems don’t have to be caused by workplace issues - they can be about anything. A rocky relationship, stress, financial woes, health problems, legal issues, you name it, an EAP will try and help you with it.
So, we know what you’re thinking, “I don’t want work knowing about my personal problems!” But that’s the beauty of an EAP. It’s a totally confidential service so your employer won’t even know you used it.
The thing is, so many employees have no idea their employer offers an EAP. In fact, a recent SHRM report says that 77 percent of employers DO offer an EAP because they know personal issues affect an employee’s productivity at work.
If you don’t know for sure, check with your company about an EAP. If they don’t offer one, let them know what a great idea it is. To arrive armed with info, check out Shortlister, a benefits consulting firm that provides a quarterly list of the top 20 EAP providers in the US. Or call ENSNA at 703-387-1000 and they’ll help you find a local EAP provider.
Life is complicated, an EAP can help with that.
