Last week MRA hosted its annual Wisconsin HR Conference, where 200 attendees spent the day learning about cutting-edge initiatives. So, you think this blog post is going to cover the ground breaking ideas that were discussed that day? Nope. It’s about the super cool Dress for Success initiative that our HR Conference proudly took part in.
Dress for Success is a non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools. Currently, the Racine location is the only affiliate in Wisconsin.
We asked our staff and conference-goers to bring in gently used purses so they could be donated to women who are heading out to job interviews, but don’t have everything they need to dress the part. If a woman feels put together, she will act more confidently, right? And there’s no better time to feel and act self-assured than at a job interview.
But wait we thought! We had (literally) hundreds of HR professionals in a room for the day – the actual people who make hiring decisions at their organizations. Wanting to tap into that pool of knowledge, we asked our awesome attendees to take a note card and write down some tips about interviewing, which was then placed into each handbag for encouragement.
Last week’s MRA HR Conference collected 80 purses for Dress for Success, and we couldn’t be happier about it. While the conference itself was a big hit, we feel equally as accomplished for helping women in our communities who need that little extra something going into a job interview. It’s a good reminder that we’re all in this together.
